On the Flip Side

I got my start flipping houses. When I first began, I knew very little about fixing up houses but I was determined to learn all I could. So, I hired guys who were experienced and they taught me. Eventually, I was able to do most of the work myself or at least understand how things were done. I then started my own company, Tee Pee Entity, LLC, a construction company based in Brooklyn, NY.

Doing It All

As President of the company, I’m responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the business. I provide construction services such as construction-framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, flooring, landscaping, roofing, painting, masonry and drywall/insulation.

My main area of expertise is electrical. Electrical is a great trade considered to be the only construction label as a profession. Not many women are in the electrical field. It’s a wonderful opportunity and the doors are open for women in this field. The training is intense. But worth it. The hands-on work is quite rewarding. And, the monetary aspects as well.

Facing Challenges Head On Working in male-dominated industries such as construction and electrical definitely has its challenges but I am proud to be the Owner of a woman-owned company that has found success in this arena. I am determined to take my career to the next level. My future goal is to start my own electrical company and teach other women how to be electricians.

Looking Forward to the Benefits

I’ve just joined IAW but I’m sure the networking and the ability to share ideas with and gain knowledge from my fellow sisters will benefit me greatly. My advice to other members is to get involved in the Local Chapters, and take part in the seminars and conferences. I’m glad I joined IAW. I’m confident it will have a great influence in helping me achieve my goals.
