At the intersection of service and strength stands Dr. Sanja Rickette Stinson, a dynamic coach, nonprofit CEO, speaker, and women’s empowerment advocate. As the CEO of Matthew House and a dedicated disruptor of the status quo, Dr. Sanja has spent her life helping women rise—especially when the world expects them to shrink.
Born to Serve, Built to Lead
Dr. Sanja’s calling was cultivated early, watching her parents lead with generosity and faith. Their compassion shaped her values and fueled her desire to uplift those in need. “Even as a child, I was watching love in action,” she shares. “I saw what it looked like to serve others wholeheartedly, with dignity and purpose.”
During college, a volunteer experience at a women’s shelter in Chicago cemented that passion into purpose. “It was in that moment I knew—this is what I was meant to do.”
The Realities of Leading as a Black Woman in Nonprofit Work
As a Black woman leading in the nonprofit space, Dr. Sanja has encountered her share of obstacles—especially around fundraising and support. But her mission has never wavered. “There’s power in service, and even more power in sisterhood,” she says. “The work is hard, but collaboration is how we win.”
For her, true leadership means balancing compassion and challenge. “You can’t change the world in a day—but you can show up with consistency, empathy, and love. That’s how transformation begins.”
Her Advice? Be a Disruptor.
Dr. Sanja encourages women to be fearless in the face of failure. “Be a disruptor,” she says. “Own your setbacks and show up vulnerable—because that’s where the growth happens. Every challenge is preparing you for your next level.”
Her mantra? Refocus. Reset. Rise. Recalibrate. Legacy isn’t built without resistance, and setbacks aren’t dead ends—they’re redirections.
Looking Ahead: Lifting Others as She Climbs
With plans to publish more books, create a college-level curriculum, and remain active within IAW, Dr. Sanja is committed to mentoring and empowering the next generation of women leaders. “I’m not done,” she affirms. “As I grow, I’ll keep opening doors for others.”
The Power of Community
Dr. Sanja credits IAW with providing meaningful support throughout her journey. “IAW never gave up on me—even during some of my toughest seasons. That’s what this community means: encouragement, connection, and accountability.”
Her advice to new members? “Show up. Take part. Your voice and your presence matter.”
