This week on IAW’s podcast Unlimited HERizons our host and president, Megan Bozzuto, chatted with a member, Nichole Penland, about financial freedom for generations. From cosmetology, insurance, and now licensed realtor, Nichole uses her experience to help people with financial literacy and stability for themselves and their families.
“I saw that a lot of people didn’t have a firm understanding of a lot of different financial products or looked at them more as a bill than a protection,” said Nichole. She provides free financial literacy seminars to help them balance stability and budget.
As a single mother, she especially loves helping other women. “I have a soft spot for single mothers because I’m a single mother,” said Nichole. “So, helping women get that secure financial position regardless of what the cards have against them and understanding what the products are and how they can help you make a difference from the cheapest bill.”
If you struggle with financial stability, try some advice she shared with Megan:
No One Can Tell You What You Can’t Do
Nichole wanted more flexibility to be a mom and professional. While working towards her realtor’s license, many said she wouldn’t last long. “I’m going to do this because I can see it’s going to afford the quality of life I want to give my children and earn enough to cover everyone’s bases. Don’t let people tell you what you can’t do. Fight through it and coach yourself through because you will be your biggest supporter at the end of it,” said Nichole. She tried seven times before passing the realtor’s exam, but she kept going because she knew she could.
Caring About the Boring Saves You Money
Learning about insurance, loans, savings accounts, and other financial products is not a common topic of interest. Yet, when an accident happens, what saves you from paying out of pocket is that insurance policy. “Even though the industries are serious, I like to lighten it and make it not boring. No one wants to talk about insurance,” said Nichole. A good policy accumulating money can cover the difference between having insurance and not. She says, “being able to get in front of people to get them to care about it before their backs against the wall and they need it is hard.”
