In 2021, Ada Crenshaw transformed her intrigue for entrepreneurship into a thriving business. After years of engaging with corporate America, Ada left behind project management in the Aerospace & Defense Industry to start consulting for nonprofits, medical practices, retailers, and more.
“I knew I had expertise and knowledge that could be utilized in any industry. Even though I loved working in corporate America for years, I no longer felt satisfied with it,” explained Ada. “I was determined to start this new chapter of my life by taking the leap into entrepreneurship, and I haven’t looked back since.”
One skill she developed since becoming a business owner was growing her brand on social media. “Unlike posting on your personal social media pages, there is a strategy. However, with time and practice, I honed my skills and used social media effectively to promote my business. It may take some trial and error, but the rewards of mastering social media can help your business shine,” said Ada. Now, she’s able to get in front of the right audience and show her personal brand.
Besides entrepreneurial advice, she also offers insight for women leaders from her twenty-plus years of experience in corporate America. Ada encourages everyone to advocate for themselves no matter the situation. “In your workplace, speaking up when you see something that’s not right is critical, rather than staying silent for peace. Don’t let anyone else’s discomfort or insecurities dim your light. It’s better to be disliked for standing up for what’s right, than to compromise your values for acceptance. Remember, you are the CEO of your own life, and being authentic is key to building a solid personal brand.”
The future of her consulting business is to grow globally. She hopes she can reach many small businesses to reach their full potential. “I believe by expanding my reach, I can make a significant positive difference in the world. With a commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of small businesses, I’m confident in my ability to succeed and create a lasting impact through my work.”
To help her reach that dream, Ada is a member of the International Association of Women and found the resources she needed to continue upward. “Through the mentorship and other resources provided by this organization, I’ve gained greater confidence in public speaking and attending networking events solo,” she explained.
“Being surrounded by driven and motivated women inspired me to level up and strive for more, and I’ve learned the importance of staying focused on my goals. In these uncertain times, having a supportive, safe space to find encouragement and guidance is crucial. The International Association of Women has been exactly that for me.” Ada also encourages new IAW members to utilize all the member benefits, participate in local chapter events to build their network, and learn from experts at the online events.
“Remember to surround yourself with people who understand your journey and will give you solid advice. Trust me when I say that if God gave you a dream, he also gave you everything you need to achieve it. Be patient, work hard, wait until your projects are finished before announcing them to the world, and watch your dreams unfold before you.”
