IAW: How would you occupy your time if you did not have to work for a paycheck?
Dr. Grant: As a young child, I wanted to be a doctor and a teacher. I spent hours caring for and teaching my many doll patients and student teddy bears. As such, if I possessed the financial freedom to be able to work without needing a paycheck, I would participate in medical mission trips throughout the Caribbean, Latin America and the African continent. In addition, I would participate in nation-wide community health and wellness events. Health education and health promotion have always been my passion, even though I did not know those terms as a young child.
IAW: What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Dr. Grant: Loyal, compassionate and optimistic.
IAW: What advice would you give to your teenage self?
Dr. Grant: I would tell my teenage self to focus on discovering who she is and who she wants to become. Spend time learning about her family’s history and culture, and discovering the things she likes, even if no one else enjoys the same things. I would tell my 13-year-old self to celebrate the good things about herself and not compare or focus on the abilities of others. Finally, I would say, ‘Colleen, your true self-worth is knowing who you are and being the best version of yourself. Be uniquely C.O.L.L.E.E.N.—Confident in your abilities, Optimistic, Loyal, Loving, Energetic; strive for Excellence and Never give up.’
IAW: In your professional career, of what achievement are you most proud?
Dr. Grant: I have been privileged to work for the number-one hospital in Florida according to U.S. News and World Report: Florida Hospital. I am truly proud to have worked for such a great organization and with such awesome coworkers. In my professional career, the achievement I am most proud of is being a member of the Florida Hospital Horizon Leadership Program.
IAW: How do you relax when not working?
Dr. Grant: I enjoy reading; having friends over for dinner – lots of food, games and laughter; going on long walks with my husband and our dog-son, and laying on the beach at sunrise or sunset and watching/listening to the waves
