Navigate 2023 with 3 Tips to Kick off the New Year

This week on IAW’s podcast Unlimited HERizons our host and president, Megan Bozzuto, shared her top three tips to help women conquer 2023. Normally on the podcast, Megan is chatting with an IAW Influencer member to hear their story and advice. However, this episode is dedicated to helping all our listeners navigate 2023 no matter where they are or what they are doing.

1. Setting goals

New Year’s resolutions are often large aspirations that start off strong and peter out by the end of January. IAW has tons of resources, articles, and webinars on goal achievement. Megan focused on a few specific aspects of setting goals that are key to actualizing them.

The first is finding a goal that is actually attainable. “Be realistic about your goals and I want you to gain some clarity behind why you are setting these goals for yourself. Make sure they are yours and not influenced by someone else. This is really important because, when it comes time to make your action plan, you want to make sure the things you set out to do align with the future you want,” said Megan. The other part of successful goal setting is to write them down. It may sound silly but writing it down increases your chance of accomplishing it by 76 percent.

2. Surround yourself with a strong community

A community can be friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, etc. But a supportive community is one that pushes you to be better, helps you achieve your dreams, and empowers you. Part of that includes sharing similar life experiences or like-mindedness that allows them to align with you. Another part is having accountability partners who you share your goals with. Your goal has a 65 percent chance of success once you share it with another person, and a 95 percent increase in success when you set continual check-in meetings with them.

“Don’t be afraid to tap into people around you. But this can be tricky because sometimes the people closest to us are not going to be the ones who support our big crazy ideas. So, you may have to go out and find that community. This is what IAW does. We help women with these obstacles, give them opportunities to share and be held accountable, provide resources, and connect you with thousands of women doing the same thing,” explained Megan.

3. Personal Brand

“Your personal brand is what people say about you when you are not in the room. What is the impression others have about you and what can you do to make sure it is consistent?” said Megan. It includes how you physically show up. Are you on time, prepared, and professionally dressed? Plus, it is also about taking care of yourself. Putting your needs mentally, physically, and professionally to continue to grow will show others your passion and joy.

“At the end of the day, it’s always me. I’m not doing anything to change, pretend, or fake it. I am showing up as who I am and investing in myself. Whereas on social media, the perfect polished image of women and my Instagram is not perfect or polished but it’s me,” said Megan.
